64 Days for Darfur! 64 Members and Growing! Be the change!

Posted on Aug 17th, 2007 by Mike : Ideas, ideas, ideas... Mike
Margaret_mead_change

What is he talking about 64 days towards Darfur?

Well if you are joining in on the Give 'Em 8 campaign that means that if our 64 members give 8 hours each that would be 64 working days of effort towards Darfur!  That is awesome!

What's more awesome is that I know some members are giving way MORE than 8 hours!

And that's kind of the idea, once you have given 8 towards Darfur it is hard not to give more for the cause.  Once you learn more about these people and see what they are up against, you realize we have to give as much as we can - their LIVES depend on it!

So as we grow -
100 people = 100 days
500 people = 500 days
1000 people = 1000 days
10,000 people = 10,000 working days = over 27 years of combined effort towards Darfur and beyond!

Become part of the change - Join Learn, Share, Act for Darfur and Beyond Today!

as John Lennon would say - Imagine

And it all starts by each and every person we talk to giving 8 hours towards Darfur
8 hours.
1 Day this year.
1 Day of your life to help save so many lives.

Imagine.

Just think about some of the ways you have wasted 8 hours.  Can you think of a few hours you have wasted?  How easy would it be to turn that time towards working on a great cause - saving lives.

Imagine.

Imagine what a difference we can make and that we have a great resource here to start.
Zaadz mission states it clear - Let's Change the World!

Imagine.

My Day Versus Their Day in Darfur! Save A Life Today!

Posted on Aug 3rd, 2007 by Mike : Ideas, ideas, ideas... Mike
My great friend Jeanine had a post like this on her blog the other day.  Here is my  version along the same lines.

Lunchtime -

My Day: Grab my magazine that I want to read.  Grab my keys and wallet, stuffed with plastic money.  Get in my minivan and head out for lunch.

Their Day:  Find shelter from the heat of the afternoon.  Patch hut by replacing blown off plastic.  Some of family go out to hunt for branches or something to make a fire for cooking.  Some of family go to water source.  Some of family lay down because they are too tired to move from malnutrition.

My Day:  Drive to McDonald's while talking on my cell phone.  Check on how the family is doing and what we are doing for the night and weekend.  Talk about dinner, even though I haven't even had lunch.  Drive through McDonalds and order a Value Meal, the adult version of Happy Meal with no toy (darn) including a nice cold lemonade.

Their Day:  Avoid being shot by militia.  Avoid be picked up by militia to join fighting.  Avoid be violated.  Do all this on way to get water and firewood.  Fill bucket with unsanitary water for drinking and cooking and try and make it back to camp.

My Day:  Here's where it gets really bad.  Turn corner while eating a couple of french fries and lemonade that was in cup holder falls on to driver side floor and completely dumps out except for one sip.  The entire floor is now soaked with lemonade!  And a couple of drops sprayed on my shoes and pants.  Drink the last little sip left in the cup.

Their Day:  Humanitarian group left a week ago because of the violence and threat to workers.  Rationed food is nearly gone, so now must make smaller portions if you even have any left.  Sift through the dirt to find any grains of rice that may have fallen on the ground.  Wonder where your daughter is with the firewood.

My Day:  Drive to the park at the lake and walk to a picnic table to eat Quarter Pounder and french fries.  Read magazine and watch out over the lake as boats go in and out from harbor.  Squint a little because of the bright sun but the breeze is refreshing.

Their Day:  Begin trying to figure out how they are going to make it through tomorrow.  Decide if they should walk another 50,100, 200 miles to the next possible camp.

My Day: Go back to work, buy a new lemonade from the vending machine, and check out latest videos on Youtube. TGIF!

We have it so good.  Our days don't even compare.

Oh my God! People Rock!!!

Posted on Aug 16th, 2007 by Mike : Ideas, ideas, ideas... Mike
We only need about 1,000 more people to answer the 3 simple questions on Darfur to reach the goal of 10,000 letters!  We have until midnight tonight!

It was just last week that they had only 2,500 letters and there has just been an outpouring of support and activity by people over the past week.  It has been amazing!

If you haven't already, please go to this site and add your voice to the fight to help Darfur -
http://www.lifenets.net/dev/?q=node/15&refid=45

Jeanine has been working tirelessly on this campaign with Lifenets.net.  If you get a chance stop by her profile and send her an email thanking her for all the great work she has been doing.  Also, tell her to get some sleep this weekend!

If you want more background on Darfur before you answer the 3 simple questions, visit the links on my post here - http://pods.zaadz.com/learn_share_act/discussions/view/175233#175233

We can change the world with a little help from our friends!  Take action!  Be present!
